INDIAN AGRICULTURAL STATISTICS RESEARCH INSTITUTE, NEW DELHI-110012
SPFE 1.0 Features …
• Generates the randomized layout of the designs,
with or without confounding for symmetrical and
asymmetrical factorial experiments.
• The users have to define the set of independent
interactions to be confounded and then the
design gets generated.
INDIAN AGRICULTURAL STATISTICS RESEARCH INSTITUTE, NEW DELHI-110012
SPFE 1.0 Features …
• Different sets of interactions and different
number of independent interactions may be
confounded in different replications.
• The package is also capable of generating
regular fractional factorialplans for symmetrical
factorial experiments.
INDIAN AGRICULTURAL STATISTICS RESEARCH INSTITUTE, NEW DELHI-110012
SPFE 1.0 Features …
• It also gives the analysis of the data generated
from these designed experiments.
• For the analysis, the treatment combinations are
written in lexicographic order and renumbered
from 1 to N, where N is the total number of
treatment combinations in the experiment.
INDIAN AGRICULTURAL STATISTICS RESEARCH INSTITUTE, NEW DELHI-110012
SPFE 1.0 Features …
• The data generated are analyzed as per the
usual procedure of designs for single factor
experiments.
• Contrast analysis is then carried out to obtain the
sum of squares due to main effects and
interactions. A null hypothesis on any contrast of
interest can also be tested. The user has to
define such contrasts.
INDIAN AGRICULTURAL STATISTICS RESEARCH INSTITUTE, NEW DELHI-110012
SPFE 1.0 Features …
• The package is also useful for teaching the
subject of factorial experiments to the postgraduate students in the class.
• This can be useful for the researchers in
Statistics with interest in experimental designs
particularly in factorial experiments.
INDIAN AGRICULTURAL STATISTICS RESEARCH INSTITUTE, NEW DELHI-110012
SPFE 1.0 Features …
• It is user-friendly, interactive and password
protected software. It is completely menu-driven
and can also be operated using the ToolBars of
SPFE.
• Complete Help with Index, Contents and Search
facility is available. The package can be run
without the aid of a manual.
INDIAN AGRICULTURAL STATISTICS RESEARCH INSTITUTE, NEW DELHI-110012
SPFE 1.0 Features …
• The package is completely Standalone and is
compatible with the Latest Technologies. It runs
on WINDOWS Platform.
• Besides the features listed above, the package
also works as an Editor with limited facilities viz.
Open, save and print files, cut, copy, paste the
text; undo the last action, etc.
INDIAN AGRICULTURAL STATISTICS RESEARCH INSTITUTE, NEW DELHI-110012
Why SPFE …
• If the number of factors or levels increases ,
the number of treatment combinations increases
too rapidly. As a result block size becomes large
and it is not possible to maintain homogeneity
with in the blocks. This may result in large intrablock variances and hence large coefficient of
variation.
• To avoid that we use the concept of Confounding
but again the generation of designs may be a
problem and it is mathematically complicated.
INDIAN AGRICULTURAL STATISTICS RESEARCH INSTITUTE, NEW DELHI-110012
Why SPFE …
• Obtaining the randomized layout of the
design may be the another problem.
• The experimenter may also have a fear in mind
regarding the analysis of data generated from
these designs and then interpreting results.
INDIAN AGRICULTURAL STATISTICS RESEARCH INSTITUTE, NEW DELHI-110012
Why SPFE …
• Keeping these problems in mind this
package has been developed.
• Users /experimenters will not have to seek any
help in selecting, generating, randomizing the
design or analyzing the data generated.

Main Features of this Indigenous
Software Package …
SPFE 1.0
INDIAN AGRICULTURAL STATISTICS RESEARCH INSTITUTE, NEW DELHI-110012
Main Features
Includes …
•Generation of selected design
• Randomized layout of the design
•Analysis of the data and
• Probability calculation
INDIAN AGRICULTURAL STATISTICS RESEARCH INSTITUTE, NEW DELHI-110012
Generation of the design
It includes …
• Complete Factorial without confounding
• Complete Factorial with confounding
• Fractional Factorial Plans
• Balanced Confounded Designs
INDIAN AGRICULTURAL STATISTICS RESEARCH INSTITUTE, NEW DELHI-110012
Generation of the design
• When the option Complete Factorial
without confounding is selected, the user
is asked to enter of Factors(n), the
number of levels of each Factor(s) and
the number of replications (r) required.
• Once these options are entered the
design is generated.
INDIAN AGRICULTURAL STATISTICS RESEARCH INSTITUTE, NEW DELHI-110012
Generation of the design
• When the option Complete Factorial
with confounding is selected, the user is
prompted to enter the number of factors
, the number of levels of each factor, the
number of replications, the number of
independent
interactions
to
be
confounded per replication and then the
independent
interaction
to
be
confounded .
INDIAN AGRICULTURAL STATISTICS RESEARCH INSTITUTE, NEW DELHI-110012
Generation of the design
•The option fractional factorial plan gives
regular fractional factorial only after
getting n and s.
•The fractional factorial are restricted for
main effects and two factor interactions.
INDIAN AGRICULTURAL STATISTICS RESEARCH INSTITUTE, NEW DELHI-110012
Generation of the design
• Selection of option (iv) provides a list
of commonly used balanced confounded
designs. It has a facility of displaying the
generated design and its randomized
layout.
