Lesson 4
Planning, Logic and
Organisation
Planning
• To plan is to establish a scheme or
structure for how you are going to do
something.
• Spend two thirds of your time planning
and revising.
• Planning is relevant for a small
document or a large website.
• Consider PAIBOC.
Organisation
• You must be personally and professionally
organised for meetings (online or face to face):
•
•
•
•
•
Do you have everything you need?
Are you fully aware of the issue being discussed?
Have you done adequate prior research?
Are you aware of the formal agenda?
Do you know the role of people with whom you are
dealing?
• Are your instructions to others clear.
Organisation
• Organisation is important in writing.
• Find a method that suits you:
• Cluster ideas
• Create a structure (essay or report plan)
• Create time and space to write and review
• Be aware of deadlines!
• Avoid the last minute dash to the
line…mistakes are bound to occur.
Logic
• Logic for us is the arrangement of
information to promote understanding.
• Logic is based on the concept of ‘making
sense’; what makes sense may be
affected by cultural and educational
perspectives.
• All good communication should have an
introduction, a body, and a conclusion.
Readings
• Textbook: Business Communication:

Exercise 4
This week, we are going to prepare a plan for
your first assignment.
Your plan should address all the individual tasks
you will need to do, the time you will need to
do them, and the issues you need to consider.
It should be presented as a table.
See your study guide for details.
