Transcript Presentation: Operation Communication
Welcome Students!
Hello…Anybody Out There?
• What do these things have in common?
All these things use radio waves to send or
receive information!
Electromagnetic Spectrum
Air: Information Highway
Transmitter: sends information
Receiver: receives information
Antenna: helps transmit and
receive information
Antennas
Smaller waves
Bigger waves
(size of humans)
(size of buildings)
Binary Code
(Computer Language)
• Bi = a prefix meaning two
• Binary Code: A code that uses two types of
symbols to represent data.
0 = 00000
5 = 00101
1 = 00001
6 = 00110
2 = 00010
7 = 00111
3 = 00011
8 = 01000
4 = 00100
9 = 01001
10 = 01010

1. Ground station will ask for A1 by sending the
ball with the “A1” sticker to satellite.

2. Satellite looks to see what color A1 is.
3. Then sends the binary code for the color back to the
Ground Station.

4. Ground Station looks to see what color
the binary code is.

5. Then the Ground Station colors in A1 that color.

Operation Communication
• Get into groups
• Gather materials
• Houston…we’re go for communication
