Prayer is a privilege, a gift
Behold, the LORD's hand is not shortened, that it cannot
save, or his ear dull, that it cannot hear; but your
iniquities have made a separation between you and
your God, and your sins have hidden his face from
you so that he does not hear. (Isaiah 59:1-2 ESV)
…let him turn away from evil and do good; let him seek
peace and pursue it. For the eyes of the Lord are on
the righteous, and his ears are open to their prayer.
But the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.”
(1 Peter 3:11-12 ESV)

How are we taught to pray?
• Pray then like this: “Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come,
your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive
us our debts, as we also have forgiven our
debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but
deliver us from evil. (Matthew 6:9-13 ESV)

How are we taught to pray?
• Believing in prayer
– Tenacious, Luke 18:1-8
– “Ask, and it will be given to
you; seek, and you will find;
knock, and it will be opened
to you. For everyone who
asks receives, and the one
who seeks finds, and to the
one who knocks it will be
opened. (Matthew 7:7-8 ESV)
Or which one of you, if his son asks him for
bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for
a fish, will give him a serpent? If you then, who
are evil, know how to give good gifts to your
children, how much more will your Father who is
in heaven give good things to those who ask
him! (Matthew 7:9-11 ESV)

How are we taught to pray?
• Expect the answer of a
Great God
• Therefore, confess your sins to
one another and pray for one
another, that you may be
healed. The prayer of a
righteous person has great
power as it is working.
(James 5:16 ESV)
For my thoughts are not
your thoughts, neither
are your ways my ways,
declares the LORD. For
as the heavens are
higher than the earth, so
are my ways higher than
your ways and my
thoughts than your
thoughts.
(Isaiah 55:8-9 ESV)
Now to him who is able to
do far more abundantly
than all that we ask or
think, according to the
power at work within us, to
him be glory in the church
and in Christ Jesus
throughout all generations,
forever and ever. Amen.
(Ephesians 3:20-21 ESV)
