Problem: The communication behavior I would like to improve is: I
have developed a bad habit of ending sentences with “you know.” I
tend to use this language when the person with whom I am
speaking is not providing me with enough verbal feedback. I need
to become aware of when I am using this phrase and consciously
choose to avoid saying it.
2.
Goal: I will work on improving my communication in the following
ways: To improve my message formation skills by avoiding the
overuse of “you know” by specifically requesting feedback.
3.
Procedure: To change my behavior I will: I will monitor my
messages for excessive use of “you know.” When I detect a
problem I will use the skill of questioning to get direct feedback from
the receiver.
4.
Test of Achieving Goal: How I will know I have achieved my goal:
This goal will be considered achieved when I am aware of excessive
“you knows” and I am able to reduce my usage by directly
requesting feedback.
5.
