So, let’s break down
some classroom walls!

Beware, technology is NOT a panacea!
It must enhance and accelerate the learning
process to be worth the investment in time
and money!
So, How do we do that?
By gaining a better understanding of the
Foundations of Technology Integration…

How important is Communication??
Some Notes From Home…
Please excus Tommy for being absent yesterday. He
had dirrhea, and his boots leak.
Please excuze Jimmy for being. It was his father's fault!
I kept Billie home because she had to go Christmas
shopping because I don't know what size she wears.

Please exkuse Jennifer for missing school yesterday. We
forgot to get the Sunday paper off the porch, and when
we found it Monday. We thought it was Sunday.
Please excloose Ray Friday from school. He has very
loose vowels.
My son is under a doctor's care and should not take PE
today. Please execute him.

How important is Communication??
Last, but not least…
Maryann was absent December 11-16, because she had a
fever, sore throat, headache, and upset stomach. Her sister
was also sick, fever and sore throat, her brother had a low
grade fever and ached all over. I wasn't the best either, sore
throat and fever. There must be something going around,
her father even got hot last night.

How important is Communication??
"My sister is also from Alabama and has a slight
accent. She has cats and when she lived in the south
she would take them to the groomer and have what
is called a Line Cut. A line cut is when all of the fur
hanging down below the cat's belly is taken off
(because it gets matted or snarled).
How important is Communication??
When she moved to Seattle one of the cats fur got all
tangled up during the move so she took it in for a line
cut.
She asked the groomer if he understood what a LINE cut
was and he said "yes, I know what a LION cut is."
…and this is how her cat came back...
Front View...
Side View...
So, what was the cost??
• Gas in car to go to groomer $4.50 $9.00
• Cat car carrier $32.99
• Grooming fee $80.00
• Getting the look from one seriously ticked off cat:
Priceless!

Next Thursday at 10:30 Halley’s Comet will appear over
this area. This is an event which occurs only once every 75
years. Notify all Principals and have them arrange for all
teachers and students to assemble on the football field, and
inform them of the occurrence of this phenomenon. If it
rains, cancel the day’s observation and assemble in the
auditorium to see a film about the comet.

So, What is Technology Doing to
Enhance and Accelerate the Learning
Process?
•Presenting Easy Access to a Wealth of Information
•Allows for Fast and Fun Communication
•Accommodates Multiple Learning Styles and Rates
•Promotes Lifelong Learning
•Multimedia Excites Students About Learning
Is Technology Really helping ?
Technology use in schools is showing significant
improvement for students in the following areas:
*Motivation
*Self - Esteem
*Self - Confidence
*Academic skills, Math, Science, Social studies,
Language arts, Reading and Writing
**Special Needs students also showed remarkable
improvement in all areas.
*Based upon a 2 Year (2002-03) study conducted by:
Interactive Educational Systems Design New York, NY
So, if technology is working, what
can we do with it?
•Integrate Content into Lesson Plans
•Participate in Global Projects
•Re-stimulate Interest in Learning- Virtual Reality
•Access Current Information
•Level the Playing Field for Special Needs
•Improve Information Literacy
•Next Generation of Search Engines
Turn Lessons to be Learned
into a Fun and Entertaining
Online Game as a Reward...
• Jeopardy
• Who Wants to be a Millionaire?
• The Match Game
• Concentration
Times are Changing!!
• Learn first, second, third languages
• Real multicultural experiences online
• Workable options for special needs students
And in the Famous Words of Yogi Berra….
The Future Just Ain’t What it Used to Be!!
And Most Importantly, Please Remember That:
Education is more than just preparing kids for
life, it’s life itself…
…and
We’re preparing students for
their future, not our past….
