The Qin Falls…
After a brief period of fighting, the Han dynasty
proves to have the Mandate and will rise to
power.
The Han rules from 202 BCE to 220 CE
Lui Bang is the founder of the dynasty. He
reestablishes the centralized government.
Lui Bang’s great grandson, Wudi, takes
control in 241 BCE, continuing the Han
dynasty.
Wudi established that government jobs will be based
on education. He creates the Civil Service System.
The Civil Service Exams test applicants for jobs, so
the best candidates are chosen.

What is the flaw with the Civil Service system
Only wealthy families could send their children

for the government jobs.
Even with this inequality, the civil service

What is this? What is it used for?
How do you know?!
Porcelain
Porcelain is a ceramic material made by heating raw materials,
generally including clay in the form of kaolin, in a kiln to
temperatures between 1,200 °C (2,192 °F) and 1,400 °C (2,552 °F)
Porcelain can informally be referred to as "china" or "fine china"
in some English-speaking countries, as China was the birthplace

Paper Making
Papermaking is known to have been traced back to China about 105 CE, when
Cai Lun, an official attached to the Imperial court during the Han Dynasty
(202 BCE-220 CE), created a sheet of paper using mulberry and other bast
fibers along with fishnets, old rags, and hemp waste.

Silk
Silk is made form the cocoon of the larvae of the
mulberry silkworm. The earliest examples of silk
in China date back to 3500 BCE, but the process
of Silk making was perfected in the Han
dynasty.
Silk Road
During the Han dynasty, China began to trade
with the outside world. Silk became a popular
demand, and China was the only place in the
world to find it.
What consequences will the Silk Road have on
China?

Acupuncture
Acupuncture is an alternative medicine methodology originating in
ancient China that treats patients by manipulating thin, solid
needles that have been inserted into acupuncture points in the skin.
According to Traditional Chinese medicine, stimulating these points
can correct imbalances in the flow of qi through channels in the
body.
