Setting
• March 6, 2013
• 1st century BC
• Campus will be split into five regions as
the Roman Empire used to be
– Spain
– Gaul
– Italy
– Macedonia
– Numidia
• Beginning 1st period and ending 6th period
Food
• Students can observe all the aspects of a
traditional upper class Roman meal , complete
with authentic food for students to sample,
music, and decorations.
• Location will be in Mrs. Regan’s room (409)
• Feast runs from 1st period to 6th period
• Help needed from Mrs. Lauer and art students
for decorations
Military
• Members of military will be trained
• Soldiers will be patrolling the whole day at various
places, borders, and events
• Students can observe battles and those involved
will receive prior training.
• Reenactments spread out during the day
– Small skirmishes between Roman soldiers and
Gaul savages
– Gladiator fights
– Battle of the Siler River (period 6)
Games
• Authentic Roman board games in Mrs.
Johnston’s room (410).
• Clay Bulla (Necklace) making booth in picnic
area adjacent to the English building.
• Runs from 1st through 6th period
• Assistance needed from the art department
and other volunteers with crafting game
pieces, painting game boards, and firing
clay.
• Teachers must sign up to bring classes and
play games.
Religion
• The Gods
– Jupiter, Janus, Vesta, Terminus, Mars, Diana, Venus,
Minerva, Saturn, Apollo, Juno, Pluto
• Muses, Vestal Virgins, and Fates
• Gods attend respective activities (i.e. Olympics) and walk
around exerting their influence over mortals, the Sibylline
Books, superstitions, festivals, Roman soothsayers
• They will be present mostly near borders and the Olympic
Games
• Teachers may be gods and will be assigned on a first come
first serve basis.
• Teachers will be provided with superstitions to incorporate
into their classes on the day of the simulation.
Government and Law
• Trials will be performed in the style of
ancient Roman law with senators and a
“jury.”
• There will be trials during fourth period in
the auditorium.
• Teachers will be put on trial for harsh
treatment of students.
Julius and Augustus Caesar
• Julius Caesar Assassination during 2nd
period on the Auditorium terrace
• Crowning of Augustus Caesar during 3rd
period on the stage
Romulus and Remus Play
• Auditions will be held for roles
• Volunteers needed for characters and
stage hands
• In the Auditorium during 5th period
• Need help from band and orchestra for
musical effects
Altar
• An altar for Vesta, located in the Gazebo
• Food will be offered into the Holy Flame of
Rome by Vestal Virgins during the change
of classes.
Olympics
• All students with a P.E. class will participate in the
simulation.
• Shot put, discus, races, long jump
– Games will be modified per grade level
• Games will be at the fields area.
• Olympic torch
• Award Ceremony to present wreaths and/or palm
branches and red ribbons.
• Need P.E. teachers to allow students to play in the
games on the day of the simulation.
Costuming
• We need funding for more extravagant
costumes.
• There will be an instructional toga booth.
• An instructional toga video will be sent to
teachers
• Teachers are encouraged to dress in
costume.
Catapult Competition
• 6th graders will compete to see who
launches the marshmallow the farthest
• Winner receives a laurel wreath
Student Involvement
• Food
– Teachers sign-up to bring classes over to
feast.
• Military
– Students apply to be trained soldiers, Gauls,
and border patrols.
• Games
– Teachers sign-up to bring classes to play
games, bullas can be made at any time.
Student Involvement

– Each god will be enacted by one teacher and
one student
– Gods will interact with students between
classes and lunch
– Students can apply to be Muses, Vestal
Virgins, and Fates
– Students can apply to be Roman soothsayers
– Students will be subject to superstitions in
classes

– Students can apply to be senators or member
of “jury”
• Julius and Augustus Caesar
– Teachers should bring classes to witness the
assassination of Caesar and crowning of
Augustus.
• Romulus and Remus Play
– Students can audition to be actors
– Students can apply to be stage hands or
musicians
Student Involvement
• Altar
– Students can apply to be Vestal Virgins to
guard the Altar
• Olympics
– Students with a P.E. class will participate in
games during class at fields.
• Costuming
– All students can bring sheets to school to
learn how to make a toga at the toga booth
