The New Specification 2016 (9-1)
• The Language: translation and
comprehension skills
• Literature: set texts by authors such as
Virgil and Tacitus/Julius Caesar and
Herodotus and Homer.
• Roman/Greek culture
What will I study in Year 10?
• Cambridge Latin Course Bk III and IV
• The stories feature life in Roman Britain and the city
of Rome
• Roman Life topics include Rome as a city, the
forum, and Entertainment ( Chariot- racing, and
Gladiators).
• By the end of Year 10, most of the language and
vocabulary required at GCSE has been covered
• We begin reading the literature set text for GCSE
from the February half term in Year 10.

Literature: Prose selection 2018 -19

• Topics: Druids and Boudica’s rebellion
• Authors: Julius Caesar/Tacitus and Tacitus
Julius Caesar encountered the Druids during his conquest of
Gaul from 58 -49 BC. They were priests recruited mainly
from the nobility and they were the only men powerful
enough to organise opposition to Roman rule.
Boudica’s rebellion
• Following the death of her husband, Prasutagus, and the treatment
that followed, Boudica roused the Iceni and Trinobantes tribes to
rebel against the Romans. They subsequently destroyed the cities of
Colchester, London and St Albans, before being conquered
eventually by the Romans in the “Battle of Watling Street.”

Latin and Greek are not for the faint hearted or the work shy and it
takes 90% to achieve an A* but we are successful in helping the girls
achieve the best result for them.
