Short life
• In January the Mexican Army
appears in Nacogdoches and
the armed settlers run away
• Fredonia = less than 1 month
• BUT caused major problems
for all of Texas
• Colonel Piedras and 200
Mexican soldiers were sent to
Nacogdoches

concerned about the growing
American influence in East
Texas, sent Gen. Teran on an
inspection tour.

Report
• Too many Americans in Texas
not acting like Mexican citizens
• Mexico could lose Texas if
something is not done.
• This report resulted in the Law
of April 6, 1830
• This law would anger the
Texans.
Law of April
6, 1830
1. Banned any further immigration
from the United States to Texas.
2. Land contracts were brought under
federal rather than state control
3. Colonies that did not have at least
150 inhabitants would be canceled.
4. Encourage Mexican citizens to move
from the interior to Texas.
5. Convicts would be sent to Texas to
build fortifications and roads to
stimulate trade.
6. Emancipation Proclamation
7. Military intervention.
8. Property tax
9. Increased tariffs on goods entering
Mexico from the United States
• General Teran declared that many of the
new settlements in Texas were illegal under
the Law of April 6, 1830
• He ordered Captain Juan Davis Bradburn to
arrest anyone on a new land grant.
