U.S Constitution
 The constitution of the United
States of America is the
supreme law of the United
States
 The job of the constitution is
to:
 To limit the power of
government and protect the
natural basic rights of the
people
 The constitution of the United
States was adopted in
September 17,1787
Legislative branch
 The legislative branch is
made up two houses.
 Elected every two years
for a four year term.
 The house of rep. has 65
members and the senate
has 35.
Executive branch
 The governor is in the
executive branch.
 It consist of the president
and delegates.
 The president is the
head of state and
government as well as in
military commander and
chief.
Judicial branch
 The supreme court is the
highest court in the
federal court system.
The supreme court of each
state is the final authority on
the interpretation of the states
laws & constitution
18th and 21th Amendments
 The 18th
amendments have to
do with alcohol.
 It was added on
December 18th 1917
Separation of powers
 The separation of
powers is also known as
trias politica, is a model
for the governance of
democratic states.
 The model was first
developed in ancient
Greece
 The opposite of
separation of power is
fusion of power
The Bill of Rights
 A bill of rights is a list of
the rights that are
considered important
and essential by a
nation.
Check and balances
 To prevent one branch
from being supreme.
 It has to do with the
legislative branch,
executive branch and
judicial branch.
 The check and balances
alert congress and
federal courts.
Electoral college
 An electoral college is a
set of electors who are
selected to elect a
candidate.
 The system can ignore
the wishes of a general
membership.
 Often these represent
different organization.
