THE UNITED STATES CONSTITUTION
BILL OF RIGHTS
The bill of Rights are the first 10 amendments of the
United States Constitution.
Pushed by Patrick Henry.
Made as a protection to the powers of the federal
government.
FIRST AMENDMENT
Congress shall make no law
respecting the establishment of
religion.
Freedom of RAPPS.
(religion, assembly, press, petition,
speech.)
SECOND AMENDMENT
Right to bear arms.
A well regulated militia
THIRD AMENDMENT
No quartering of troops in
peacetime without consent of the
owner.
FOURTH AMENDMENT
No illegal search and seizures.
Need a search warrant.
FIFTH AMENDMENT
No double jeopardy
Miranda rights
Due process clause
Self incrimination
SIXTH AMENDMENT
Right to fair and speedy trial.
Counsel.
Witnesses
No tricks!
SEVENTH AMENDMENT
Common law cases may be TRIAL
BY JURY
EIGHTH AMENDMENT
No excessive bail
No excessive fines
No cruel and unusual punishment
NINTH AMENDMENT
You have more rights than what are
stated in the Constitution.
TENTH AMENDMENT
Powers not given to the U.S. by the
Constitution are “reserved” to the
states or people.
