The Three Branches of
Government
By: Kyler E. McHugh
What is the U.S. Government?
• The U.S. Government is very important.
• It includes the three branches. The
Judicial, Executive, and the Legislative.
• The government has a lot to do with
politics, and the president
The Judicial Branch
• The judiciary explains and applies the laws.
• The judicial branch is in charge of the court system.
• The type of court that a case is tried in depends on the
law that was allegedly violated.
• A jury consists of 12 people who are selected to hear the
evidence in the trial.
• Courts decide arguments about the meaning of laws,
how they are applied, and whether they break the rules
of the constitution.
• The role of the judicial branch is to interpret the nation’s
laws.
The Executive Branch
• The Executive branch of government makes sure that the laws of
the united states are obeyed.
• The vice president of the United States is second in command. This
person must be ready to become president or acting president at a
moment’s notice if the president dies, resigns, is removed from
office, or becomes unable to perform the duties of office.
• The wife of a president is called the First Lady.
• The Executive branch is very large so the president gets help from
the vice president, department heads (cabinet members), and heads
of the independent agencies.
• The Executive branch of the government has the President, Vice
President, the department heads, and all the cabinet members.
• The President of the United States is the head of the executive
branch of the Government.
The Legislative Branch
• The Legislative Branch, writes laws on a bill.
• Congress is made up of the Senate and the
House of Representatives.
• Their job is to make the laws for our country.
• The Senate has 100 members, two from each
state.
• The House of Representatives is made up of
435 members.
