WRITE ANSWERS TO THE QUESTIONS.

What is a tropism? Describe one kind of tropism.
Tropism is the response of a plant to something in the
environment.
Phototropism: is a response to light in which the
stem bends towards or away from light.
Gravitropism: is a response to gravity; the roots grow
down andthe stem up.

Define biotic and abiotic factors and give an
example of each.
Biotic: living organisms in the ecosystem. Ex.: Humans,
animals, plants.
Abiotic: nonliving parts. Ex.: sun light, air, water.

Explain the role of the respiratory system in keeping
the body’s systems in balance.
Lungs take in oxygen. Other parts of the respiratory
system transfer it to the blood. Carbon Dioxide is
removed from the blood and then exhaled from the
body.

Describe two biotic and two abiotic factors in
an ecosystem.
Biotic:
plants – they are living organisms that take in carbon
dioxide and produce oxygen cleaning the air. They also serve
as food for animals.
Animals – they are living organisms that consume plants or
other animals and serve as food for others as well.
Abiotic:
air– nonliving factor that all living things need the oxygen in
the air to live.
water– nonliving factor that cells in all living organisms
need to continue living.
MATCH THE DEFINITION WITH THE
CORRECT TERM. WRITE THE LETTER ON
THE LINE NEXT TO THE DEFINITION.

Plants produce carbon dioxide and water in the
process of photosynthesis.
 Most organisms depend on plants for oxygen.
 Glucose is produced in the mitochondria or
plants.
 Cellular respiration occurs only in animals.
 Both plants and animals depend on the carbon
dioxide-oxygen cycle.
