To quote the Psalmist, we are “fearfully and
wonderfully made” (Psalm 139:14). Truly the
design of the human body is one of the
greatest marvels of His works. As diverse as the
human population may be, the truth rings loud
and clear, all of us were created in the image of
God. Look no farther than the systems of the
body and we will find the signature of our
Creator.
WELCOME
We have been studying about the human
body. In this webquest, we will begin by
reviewing some of the concepts we have
already learned. Then we will explore the sense
organs of the body, which are those organs that
make life worth living!

DEVOTIONAL
We were created in the image of
God, with five senses to experience the
wonders of His works. Some scientists
may say that our senses are merely for
the purpose of survival, but this is only
partially true. Just as God takes
pleasure in His creation, He desires us
to take pleasure in living. How could
this be possible without our abilities to
see, hear, smell, touch, or taste?

Our sense of sight is perhaps the most
valuable to us as it is the means in which our
brain receives the majority of information about
our external environment. Click on the link

HEARING
Next to our sense of sight, the ears are our
brains second most effective means of
receiving information about our external
environment. Click on the link below to answer

HEARING: TASK 4
Rewrite each statement. If it is false, rewrite it as a true statement.
1. The ear is designed only for hearing sounds.
2. Sound waves are created by vibrations.
3. Noise is created by a lack of vibrations in the air.
4. There are two parts to the ear canal; the outer and inner ears.
5. When sound waves hit the eardrum, it vibrates.
6. As the eardrum vibrates, it causes the three smallest bones in the body to
vibrate.
HEARING: TASK 4
Rewrite each statement. If it is false, rewrite it as a true statement.
7. The hammer, then the anvil, and finally the nail vibrate after the eardrum
vibrates.
8. The cochlea vibrates as a result of the stirrup’s vibration.
9. The cochlea contains fluid and thousands of cilia nerve endings.
10. The fluid in the cochlea changes the vibrations into messages for the brain.
11. The optical nerve sends messages from the ear to the brain.
12. Your sense of balance is controlled by the fluid in the semi-circular canals.

SMELL
Our sense of smell brings both pleasant an
unpleasant experiences in our lives. The smell of a
rose is much different than the smell of garbage.
Our sense of smell also helps us to distinguish
how safe an environment is; like when we smell
the smoke of a dangerous fire. Click on the link

The sense of touch is different from the

The weakest of the five senses is our sense
of taste. Yet it plays a vital role as it often

TASTE: TASK 7
Follow the link for sense of taste and answer the following questions.
You are sitting down at the dinner table for a wonderful Thanksgiving
meal. As you eat, you are savoring the tastes of the food. Some tastes are
good, others are bad. Write a story explaining your experience. Discuss the
types of foods you are eating; something sweet, salty, sour, and bitter,
discuss the location of the taste buds on the tongue as those senses of
taste are triggered.

SENSES
The senses of our bodies work together to
provide the pleasurable experience of living.
They also provide the unpleasant experiences,
such as pain, that are meant to ensure our
survival. To conclude this webquest, you will be
asked to summarize all you have learned in the
form of a song.
SENSES: FINAL TASK
Create a song that explains the functions and parts of the sense organs. Your
song should be original, include a beat, and relate the sense organs to the
systems of the body. You will be required to present your song as either a
prerecorded audio or video presentation, other multimedia presentation, or live.
