UNDERSTANDING THE PROBLEM
H1.1
applies and explains an understanding of the nature and function of information technologies to a specific practical situation
The current system used by Spice Hotel is a manual system. This current
system takes a vast amount of time to access and change employee
information, the new employee database system for Spice Hotel will be easier
and quicker to access and change employee information.
Spice hotel would advantage from producing prototypes where participants
can better understand the new prototype with a ‘hands on’ more involved
approach, also files that have been created for the prototypes can be used to
develop the new system making the new system easier to create.
MAKING DECISIONS
H2.2
develops and explains solutions for an identified need which address all of the information processes
Feasibility report:
Two options have been identified for the Spice Hotel database solution Microsoft Access based database running on a Windows
2003 server platform, and a PostGre SQL based database running on an Ubuntu Linux platform. Both options have their
advantages and disadvantages in the contexts of technical, economic, schedule and operational feasibility.
Based on the results of the feasibility study, the Microsoft Access based solution was decided upon as the most viable
solution for Spice Hotel.

IMPLEMENTING
H2.1
analyses and describes a system in terms of the information processes involved
There are four conversion methods that may be utilised in
implementing a solution. They are:
1. Direct conversion
2. Parallel conversion
3. Phased conversion
4. Pilot conversion
