North America
Major Religions
-The major religions of North America are Protestantism, Roman
Catholic, and Judaism.
-Judaism
- Judaism makes up only about 0.2% of the world’s population.
- There are three
different branches of Judaism. They
are Orthodox,
Conservative, and Reformed.
-- Some of the major holidays that are celebrated in Judaism are
Hanukkah, Passover, Rosh Hashanah, and Yom Kippur.
- The Torah is the holy book of Judaism.
Europe
Major Religions
-The major religions of Europe are Protestantism, Roman Catholic, Judaism, Islam,
and Eastern Orthodox.
- Eastern Orthodox
are about 225 million people in the world who practice Eastern Orthodox.
-The most Eastern Orthodox people in the world are in Greece and Turkey.
- This religion arose in the 11th century.
-The Bible is the holy book of this religion.

 Protestantism refers to the forms of Christian
faith and practice that originated in the 16th

Facts about Buddhism
Some people think it is a religion, while others
believe it is a culture or philosophy.
Buddhism is split into two major divisions:
Hinayana and Theravada.
 Their goal in life is to reach Nirvana, the Buddha's word
for release from selfishness and pain
 Siddhartha Gautama is the founder of Buddhism

People who are Roman Catholic attend the Roman Catholic Church
The religion began in the Roman Empire in present day Europe
Catholics believe in one God
They believe Jesus is the son of God
They believe Jesus Christ is the savior of the Christians
It is lead by the Pope who lives in Vatican City in Italy
The Pope is a holy figure of the Roman Catholic Church
It was brought to South America by the Spanish

 The word “Islam” means “peace through the submission to God.”
 A person who practices Islam is called Muslim
 The word “Muslim” means “anyone or anything that submits itself to
the will of God”
 Muslims believe in one God and the teachings of the prophet

 They call their God “Allah”
 There are the five pillars or practices of Islam, the pillars must be
practiced in order to be considered a true Muslim

Poor-due "tax" - 2.5% of savings given to the poor at the end of each year
