Your Task:
You are a 21st Century Travel Agent and your job is a plan a 7-day
U.S. History travel trip for Ms. Rose. She wants to travel through
American History between the time period of 1860 and 1920.
Construct a trip planner on power point outlining each day.

Day One: The Battle of Gettysburg
Location: Gettysburg Pennsylvania
Date: July 3, 1863
Historical Background: The Civil War remains the bloodiest conflict
in American history; 620,000 casualties, more than all other
American Wars combined. The War between the States began on
April 12, 1861 when the south bombarded Fort Sumter on the
Charleston Harbor. The war ended on April 9, 1864 when General
Lee surrendered to General Grant at Appomattox Courthouse,
Virginia. The Civil War restored the union and ended slavery in the
United States.
The Battle of Gettysburg is considered the bloodiest battle of
the Civil War. In the end, this small town of only 2,400 was left with
a total (from both sides) of over 51,000 casualties. Over 172,000
men and 634 cannons had been positioned in an area
encompassing 25 square miles. Additionally, an estimated 569 tons
of ammunition was expended and, when the battle had ended, 5,000
dead horses and the other wreckage of war presented a scene of
terrible devastation (americancivilwar.com/getty.html).
Historical Background Continued:
On the third day of fighting, in a last attempt to win the
battle, General George Pickett led a massed infantry assault of
15,000 Confederate troops across the open field toward the
Union center on Cemetery Ridge. One mile they marched, while
being pounded by artillery and rifle fire. Through it all, Pickett's
men reached but failed to break the Union line, and the
magnificent effort ended in disaster. In 50 minutes, 10,000 in
the assault had become casualties, and the attack - forever to
be known as Pickett's Charge - was now history.
What you are going to see and do:
You will join Pickett’s Charge. You will be a color bearer
(carry the flag). That position will put you directly into the
action (since color bearers are at the front of the charge). You
will experience the deafening sounds of gun and cannon fire all
around you. You will feel the smoke burn your eyes and lungs.
Proudly wave the flag as you march closer to enemy lines, you
are the inspiration for all those marching behind you. Good
