Can You Save the Union?
The Compromise of 1850 Project
• Your task is to develop laws that will meet the
needs of both North & South and prevent the
Civil War.
• You are a U.S. senator in 1850.
• You need to convince a majority of your fellow
senators to support your solutions.
• The challenge involves dealing with senators
who hold opposing views.
• You will create a compromise in order to keep
the South from seceding.
• A successful result will receive a majority vote
and become law.
