Building 17 Remodel
The Falls Lounge
April 9, 2013
History
In 2010-11 a group of ten Interior Design Program students, guided by Tanja Huffman
developed a new concept for the renovation of the student lounge space in Building 17.
They went through an extensive design process which included:
Surveyed current students and other user groups to determine likes and dislikes about
the current lounge space
Gathered programming information to define the functional aspects of the space
Determined the conceptual and aesthetic appearance for the space
Worked with a project team that consisted of: administrators, faculty, facilities
department, IT department, Sodexo, and students to develop and refine the final design
solution
Worked with local vendors and suppliers to get pricing on materials, furniture and
equipment to be used within the space
Worked with a local lighting designer to develop a new lighting design concept
Worked with local furniture dealers to select and specify new furniture for the space
Presented work in progress to Student Government for feedback and then incorporated
these comments into the design
