April 9, 2013
History
In 2010-11 a group of ten Interior Design Program students, guided by Tanja Huffman
developed a new concept for the renovation of the student lounge space in Building 17.
They went through an extensive design process which included:
 Surveyed current students and other user groups to determine likes and dislikes about
the current lounge space
 Gathered programming information to define the functional aspects of the space
 Determined the conceptual and aesthetic appearance for the space
 Worked with a project team that consisted of: administrators, faculty, facilities
department, IT department, Sodexo, and students to develop and refine the final design
solution
 Worked with local vendors and suppliers to get pricing on materials, furniture and
equipment to be used within the space
 Worked with a local lighting designer to develop a new lighting design concept
 Worked with local furniture dealers to select and specify new furniture for the space
 Presented work in progress to Student Government for feedback and then incorporated
these comments into the design
