One evening, one man was walking in a street. He
looked up to the sky. The moon shone brightly.
Suddenly he saw a little house. Then he knocked at
the door and it opened. He saw a girl sitting on a chair
silently in the dim candle light. To his surprise, he
found the girl was blind. The girl was thinking about
something. She was thinking about a piano. She was
so poor. She had not enough money. So she couldn’t
afford to buy a piano. She liked playing piano very

Question1
1.Can you play the piano? If you can, who taught
you play it?
2.Do you like music?
3.Can you tell me some musicians?
4.What do you know about Beethoven?
Music
Beethoven
Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827) was a German composer and
pianist. Beethoven loved music very much. By the time he was ten,
Beethoven became a very good musician(音乐家). He played very
well and all the people said, “He is another Mozart.” When he was 28
years old, he came to a great tragedy(悲剧)of his life. He began to
lose his hearing. But this did not stop him. He wrote some of the
great music after he became deaf. Beethoven’s friends tried to help
this unhappy(不幸的) man, but Beethoven was very independent
(独立的) person. He refused (拒绝)any help. And on March
26,1827,he died suddenly.
Question2
1.Something about the girl in the story.
She could play the piano well. She was blind and taught herself to play. She
found it difficult to play Beethoven’s Sonata in F. She lived with her
brother. She wished to hear Beethoven himself play his Sonata in F.
2. Did Beethoven teach the girl to play his Sonata in F? What did
he do instead?
No, he didn’t. He sat down before the piano. He looked up to the sky for a
while and began to play.
3. Did the girl and the young man like the music played by
Beethoven? How do you know that?
Yes, they did. Because they listened to Beethoven silently near the piano.
They both lost themselves in the beautiful music.
