The Kodály Method

The Three P’s:
– Prepare
• Time to expose children to Kinesthetic, Aural and Visual activities
using song literature that contains the new musical concept.
– Present
• The lesson in which the new concept is presented, using song
material from the preview phase. Students are taught the aural and
visual characteristics.
– Practice
• Students use already learned and new material to apply knowledge of
the new concept.

• Students use elemental tools (simple forms, melodies, rhythms) to
create a final performance piece that might include movement, drama,
speech, singing and playing instruments.
