The slides show how the palace
changed during the centuries
after the first construction.
Teatro Farnese
Teatro Farnese was the
theatre of the Dukes court.
It was built around 1618 by
Ranuccio I, duke of Parma.
After the last theatrical
representation of 1732, it
decayed. It was almost
entirely destroyed during the
Second World War by the
Allies.
The theatre was
recostructed between 1956
and 1960, with the original
design and the recovered
material.
Paganini Auditorium
The Paganini Auditorium designed by
Renzo Piano is a fine example of a
modern use of an industrial complex.
It was a sugar refinery.
The old structure has remained the
same, and the focus of the architect was
on Acoustics, Lighting and Aesthetics.
Sanvitale Castle
It is a remarkable fortress residence located
in the town of Fontanellato, near Parma.
The castle accessible through a drawbridge; it
was completed in 1400s.
The most famous works inside are the
frescoes of Diane and Acteon painted in
1523-24 by Parmigianino for Count Galeazzo
Sanvitale and his wife.
Torrechiara Castle
Torrechiara Castle
Torrechiara is a little village in the
Langhirano area, near Parma.
It was built between 1448 and 1460. The
castle has four rectangular towers,
connected by a double line of merloned
walls.
The legend tells that, in full moon’s nights
when fog hides the castle, appears a
ghost of a beautiful duchess, who was
walled in by her husband. The ghost
wanders around and kisses passionately
the men she meets.
Scenes of the 1985 film Ladyhawke were
shot at the castle.
Parma and Music
The photo shows two
characteristics of Parma: the
Melodrama and the bicycles.
Parma is famous in the world for

are frequently performed in opera
houses around the world.
The most famous works are
Nabucco, Traviata, Aida,
Rigoletto...
The Inhabitants of Parma are
proud of that.

Parma also has two foodstuff industries, Barilla
and Parmalat.
European Food Safety Authority
In 2004, Parma became the seat of the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA).
It’s an agency that provides independent scientific advice and clear communication
on existing and emerging risks associated with the food chain.
Teenagers’ Life
Another favourite gathering place is
the Barilla Center, a modern complex
where you can do shopping, go to the
cinema or just meet friends.
Via Cavour
The teenagers meet in Piazza
Garibaldi or Piazzale della Pace on
Saturday afternoon and evening. The
centre is also a good place for
shopping.
