 Born on Leap year Feb. 29 only 20 actual B-days
Nicknames
 “The Swan of Pesaro” Because his glowing carreer
brought recognition to his hometown
 “Signor Crescendo” Because of his frequent use of the
Crescendo for dramatic effect.
 “Napoleon of Music” Because he took Europe by storm
as a musician and composer

Musical Life as a Child
 Played Violin, Viola, and Piano
 Sang in a boys Choir as a Boy Soprano
 Composing at and Early age
 Began writing operas as a teenager
 Made his debut in 1810 with a one act comic opera
“Overture to William Tell”
 Presented in 1829 to a Paris audience.
 Rossini’s last dramatic work before he retired at age 39.
 Audience did not like it at first, thought it was too
long and had boring sections.
 Based on a famous Swiss story about a character
named William Tell.
 Who was forced to shoot an apple off of his son’s head.
 The plot was borrowed from an author names Schiller.
 Today a statue on Mr. Tell and his son stands in the
village square at Atsdorf.

 Could write quickly
 His most famous Opera “The Barber of Seville” written
in 1816 was written, rehearsed and staged in only 2
weeks and contained 600 pages of music.
 Also wrote the “William Tell” at age 37 and was his last
Opera.
 Was rich and famous and retired from writing his final
39 years.

 Bad health and died from complications following a
heart attack.
 First buried in paris and later his body was moved at
the request of the Italian Government

encouragement from a little girl named Reliana who
magically appears and disappears.
 She bring him and important message from the future
when his opera has a curse placed on it.
