THE ORIGIN OF THE INTIMATE FRIEND
中国， 在三千年以前， 音乐就已经非常发达。

有一个小故事：周朝时候， 有一个学者， 后人称他为列子。

Liezi.
他告诉我们一个“伯牙鼓琴”的音乐故事：

有一个人叫伯牙，善于弹琴。

他有一个好朋友， 叫钟子期， 善于欣赏音乐。
He has a good friend, called Zhong Zi, who was good at appreciating music.
有一天， 伯牙弹了一个即兴曲， 也就是临时作曲表演的曲子， 曲子的主题是“高山”， 他用音
乐表达了他对高山的感想。
One day, Bo Ya played an improvisation, that is provisional composition of the song, the
theme of the song is “high mountain”, he used his music to express his feelings about the
mountain.
钟子期听他弹完了， 说：“你这乐曲， 峨峨然（高高的样子）若泰山。
Zhong Ziqi heard him playing, said: “This musical composition is like Taishan mountain.”
这就是说，乐曲听起来， 好像泰山一般高大雄伟。
This means that the music sounds, like Taishan mountain; tall and majestic.
后来， 伯牙又弹了一个即兴曲， 表达了他对流水的感想。
Later, Bo Ya and playing an impromptu song, expressed his feelings about the water.
种子期听他弹完了， 说： “你这乐曲，洋洋然（水流不断的样子） 若江河。”
Zhong Ziqi heard him playing, said: “Your music, impressive like the continuous flow of the
river.”
这两个人， 一个是优秀的作曲家， 一个是高明的音乐家， 因为音乐， 他们成了特别好的朋友。
These two people, one is excellent composer, one is a clever musician, because the music,
they became particularly good friends.
后来， 种子期死了， 伯牙把琴摔破了， 从此， 不在弹琴， 因为再也没有“知音”了， 也就是
再也没有人懂得欣赏他的曲子了。
Later, Zhong Ziqi died, Bo Ya broke his instrument, since then, no longer played because no
longer “intimate friend”, that is, no one knows how to appreciate his music.
这故事是说：“知音难得”。
This story is said: “intimate friends are rare”.
