Areas of Learning
As Historians we will
discover when some of our
toys were made.
As Geographers we will
find out where some of
our toys come from.
As Scientists we will
explore how objects move.
As Writers we will use
imaginative description to
make our own stories
about toys.

Spiritual and Moral
Communities
As enterprising individuals
we will show our talents in
the picture competition at
the Eskdale Show.
We will develop our
knowledge of where toys
come from and when they
were made.
In our spiritual and moral
development we will focus
on special people in our
life. We will have regular
circle time activities to
allow the children to
discuss and reflect as a
class on different
questions.
We will visit The Beacon to
broaden our knowledge of
the History of Toys.
Using Communication
Attitudes – Learning to Learn
Historical, geographical and social understanding
We will focus on talking about our
ideas together. We will be reading
books by the author ‘Mini Grey’,
starting with a book called ‘Traction
Man’. We will create our own story
about an adventure for Traction Man.
We will then compare other books by
this author. We will have a toy shop
role play area with speaking and
listening, writing and money
opportunities. This term we will focus
on handwriting and presentation skills
in books.
We will look at the secrets to
success:
We will study Toys: when they were invented, where they
were made and talk about some of our favourite toys during
‘Show and Tell’.
Using Mathematics
We will develop our skills as
Mathematicians focussing on using
numbers, using mathematical
symbols, place value, money and
measurement. Maths missions to
include creating a toy shop and a
bakery.
We will have a go and try new
activities.
We will keep persevering even if
we find activities challenging.
We will contribute to class and
small group discussions.
We will treat other people as
we would like to be treated and
listen to each other’s
contributions in class.
Scientific and Technological understanding
We will look at how objects move and make predictions
about how they will move.
We will compare objects and practise writing our results
down as Scientists.
Using ICT
Religious Education
Using Active Learn to enhance our
phonics knowledge and developing
our mathematical knowledge through
Mathletics.
We will be looking at special
people in our lives and why
they are special to us.
We will begin to look at how
computer games are programmed and
how we could use coding.
We will use maps to locate where we live, the countries
where our toys come from and which continent the country
belongs to.
Understanding the arts
We will design and create our own puppet. We will look at
what materials to use and which techniques to use to make
them. We will look at how toys have been made before and
who made them.
Understanding physical development, health and well-being
PE sessions will be led by Onside Sports Coaching. They will
be focussing on multi skills to develop agility, balance and
coordination.
