What is a belief?
• A certain idea that we trust is true.
• Something we do not go against.
What are values?
• Our standards of behavior.
• The reasons and explanations for the way we
behave.
What is equality?
• The condition of permitting someone the same rights and
opportunities.
• The idea that all people should be given the same rights
and respect regardless of things like race, age, gender or
social status.
What is freedom?
• The ability to make choices.
• The power to determine action without
restraint.
What is justice?
• Can also be thought of as fairness.
• The administering of deserved punishment or
reward.
What are the differences
between beliefs and values?
• Beliefs are statements, principles, or
doctrines that individuals choose to accept as
true.
• Values show more of who we are by being a
measure of discipline.
More differences…
• Beliefs determine our attitudes and opinions.
• Values change over time but for a belief to
change there has to be strong proof or
evidence.
Examples of beliefs:
• Religious beliefs.
• Beliefs that there
should be no
discrimination due to
sex, age, or race.
• Political beliefs such
as Democrat,
Republican, or
Liberal.

Belief or Value?
• There is a heaven and hell.
• Education is important to be successful
in life.
• Loyalty is sacred within a family.
• Everyone is created equal.

• Belief: heaven and hell are a part of ones
religious beliefs.
• Value: many people live and behave to be
successful.
• Value: loyalty is a behavior learned over
time.
• Belief: many people believe everyone is
equal but others do not live by this
statement.
