Technology acceptance model - History
TAM is one of the most influential
extensions of Ajzen and Fishbein’s
theory of reasoned action (TRA) in the
literature

I-Change Model - Motivation
The ultimate result in level of
motivation to adopt a health behavior
can be measured by intentions, a
concept derived from Fishbein Ajzen's
Theory of Reasoned ActionFishbein,
M., Ajzen, I

Moral psychology - Moral Values
With the research they reviewed and
their own extension of Ajzen and
Fishbein's theory of reasoned action,
they conclude that value-attitudebehavior depends on the individual and
their moral reasoning

Attitude (psychology) - Attitude-behavior relationship
Two theoretical approaches have
dominated this research: the theory of
reasoned actionAjzen I, Fishbein M

Attitude (psychology) - Attitude-behavior relationship
1
The Theory of Reasoned Action was
developed by Martin Fishbein and
Icek Ajzen (1975, 1980), derived from
previous research that started out as
the theory of attitude, which led to the
study of attitude and behavior

Attitude (psychology) - Attitude-behavior relationship
The theory of reasoned action was in
turn grounded in various theories of
attitude such as learning theories,
expectancy-value theories, consistency
theories,[2] and attribution theory.[3]
According to the theory of reasoned
action, if people evaluate the suggested
behavior as positive (attitude), and if
they think their significant others want
them to perform the behavior (subjective
norm), this results in a higher intention
(motivation) and they are more likely to
do so

Attitude (psychology) - Attitude-behavior relationship
1
By this, he extended the theory of
reasoned action to cover nonvolitional behaviors for predicting
behavioral intention and actual
behavior.

Self-monitoring - Applicability to social psychology theory
1
Icek Ajzen argues that subjective norms
are an important antecedent to
determining behavioral intention in the
Theory of Reasoned Action/Theory of
Planned Behavior.Ajzen, 1985 High selfmonitors tend to weigh subjective norms
more heavily than low self-monitors

Value-action gap - Summary
1
The theory of reasoned action states
that behavioral intention is dependent
on attitudes surrounding that behavior
and social norms

Value-action gap - Application

Therefore, positive attitude towards
sustainable products are not followed
by sustainable actions, contrary to the

Theory of reasoned action
1
The Theory of Reasoned Action was
developed by Martin Fishbein and
Icek Ajzen (1975, 1980), derived from
previous research that started out as
the theory of attitude, which led to the
study of attitude and behavior

Theory of reasoned action - Definition and example
1
Derived from the social psychology setting,
the theory of reasoned action (TRA) was
proposed by Ajzen and Fishbein (1975
1980). The components of TRA are three
general constructs: behavioral intention (BI),
attitude (A), and subjective norm (SN). TRA
suggests that a person's behavioral intention
depends on the person's attitude about the
behavior and subjective norms (BI = A + SN).
If a person intends to do a behavior then it is
likely that the person will do it.

Theory of reasoned action - Utility
The theory of reasoned action has
received considerable and, for the most
part, justifiable attention within the field
of consumer behavior ... not only does
the model appear to predict consumer
intentions and behavior quite well, it
also provides a relatively simple basis
for identifying where and how to target
consumers' behavioral change attempts
(Sheppard, Hartwick Warshaw, 1988,
p.325).

Reasoned Action Approach - History
1
The reasoned-action approach is the
latest version of the theoretical ideas
of Martin Fishbein Icek Ajzen,
following the earlier theory of
reasoned action Fishbein, M., Ajzen,
I

Reasoned Action Approach - Culture
1
The theory of reasoned action and the
theory of planned behavior have
successfully been applied in many
different cultural settings.

Behavioural change theories - Theory of Reasoned Action
The Theory of Reasoned Action
assumes that individuals consider a
behaviour's consequences before
performing the particular behaviour

Behavioural change theories - Theory of Planned Behaviour
1
In 1985, Ajzen expanded upon the theory
of reasoned action, formulating the Theory
of Planned Behaviour, which also
emphasises the role of intention in
behaviour performance but is intended to
cover cases in which a person is not in
control of all factors affecting the actual
performance of a behaviour

Behavioral intention
1
The concept was proposed by Icek Ajzen
to improve on the predictive power of the
theory of reasoned action by including
perceived behavioural control

recommendations for modifications
and future research

Behavioral intention - Extension of self-efficacy
1
In addition to attitudes and subjective
norms (which make the theory of
reasoned action), the theory of
planned behavior adds the concept of
perceived behavioral control, which
originates from self-efficacy theory
(SET)
https://store.theartofservice.com/the-theory-of-reasoned-action-toolkit.html
Behavioral intention - Social influence
1
The concept of social influence has been
assessed by social norm and normative
belief in both the theory of reasoned action
and theory of planned behavior
https://store.theartofservice.com/the-theory-of-reasoned-action-toolkit.html
Behavioral intention - Strengths
1
Several studies found that the TPB would
help better predict health-related
behavioral intention than the theory of
reasoned action.Ajzen, I. (1989). Attitude
structure and behavior. Attitude structure
and function, 241-274. The TPB has
improved the predictability of intention in
various health-related fields such as
condom use, leisure, exercise, diet, etc.

Behavioral intention - Strengths
1
In addition, the theory of planned behavior
as well as the theory of reasoned action
can explain the individual's social behavior
by considering social norm as an
important variable.
