Oracle Exadata managed service
HCL will help maximise the benefits of Novartis’s investment in Exadata with a complete end to end Exadata managed service
Exadata migration planning and Exadata best practice consultation
Understand the
existing platform
 Observe current
workload and record
database for replay and
real application testing
on Exadata
 Educate Novartis team
on Exadata features
 Use ASH and AWR to
observer baseline SQL
 Educate DBA and DMA
with top X database
segments and top Y SQL
statements
 Plan for desired
availability model HA or
MAA
Leverage the power
of Exadata now and
in the future
Configure Oracle
database to leverage
Exadata performance
 Identify Exadata features
which will provide best
performance
 Configure Exadata
platform, ready scripts to
assist migration and
ensure Exadata features
are leveraged
Migration planning
and execution
Post migration services
Continuous
improvement
Business As Usual
Support
 Recommend best
migration strategy. e.g
Datapump, ASM
redundancy or
Goldengate,
 Monitor workload and
visualise database objects
using HCL Workload
Discovery workbench and
visualisation tools
 Leverage skills in Exadata
Centre of Excellence after
migration. Adopt COE
best practices for BAU
 Utilise real application
testing to test scale-out
and scale-up
 Establish Exadata SQL
tuning team and profiling
e.g Method-R
performance toolkit
 Identify database
segments which may
need tuning once on
Exadata
 Baseline SQL statements
to ensure performance
improvements are
recognized post migration
 Observe database replay
behavior & tune specific
Exadata parameters
 Design scripts to modify
segments for partitioning
and implement the correct
compression
 Educate DBAs and
developers in Oracle’s
advanced SQL features
for Exadata and ensure
inefficient SQL statements
are eradicated from the
landscape
 Ensure maximum
availability architectures
are maintained
 Provide patching services
to guarantee Platinum
Support from Oracle
 Implementation of agile
data platforms to make
clones available for free
and without expensive
downtime. E.g Flex Clone
or Delphix appliance
HCL will guarantee Novartis get the best from your Exadata investment. Oracle Engineered Systems and

Simplification of Implementation and Migration Process.
Post Database migration, taking performance scalability of Database/Application to
next level through code, business logic optimization, etc.
Storage optimization.
Post migration, optimization of Exadata nodes (Databases, Cells, Flashcache etc.)
configurations according to Organization data behavior like OLTP, DW or MIX LOAD.
Maximum Availability Architecture (MAA) implementation using best practices and
according to organization norms with optimal resource utilization.
Strong Monitoring & Alerts deployment on Exadata Architecture using Oracle
Enterprise Manager Grid Control, ASR, Exadata Utilities and Custom scripts to avoid
severity and downtime proactively.
Gradual consolidation for future scalability.
