3. What is a cell?
A
cell is a membrane-
covered structure that
contains all the materials
needed for life.
An organism can have
anywhere from one cell to
trillions of cells.

to change?

must eat
(consume) other organisms to
get food.
A salamander is a consumer
because it gets the energy it
needs by eating insects and
other organisms.

decomposers?
Decomposers are
organisms that get their
food by breaking down
the nutrients in dead
organisms.

makes up cells?

of cells are made
up of water.

up air?
Different
gases including
oxygen and carbon dioxide.
Organisms on land get oxygen
from the air.
Organism in water obtain
dissolved oxygen or come to
the surface.

must contain all of the things
organisms need to survive.
Because space is limited,
some organisms compete with
each other for food, water, and
other necessities.
