Photosynthesis and
Cellular Respiration
Photosynthesis
• Is the process by which plants
• convert energy from the sun
• into food
In Photosynthesis
• The plant’s chlorophyll takes energy
from the sun
• combines it with carbon dioxide from
the atmosphere
• and water from the plant
• To create glucose (carbohydrates/food)
and oxygen
Chemical Formula for
Photosynthesis
The plant’s chlorophyll uses sunlight,
carbon dioxide and water to make
oxygen and glucose (food).
Sunlight + 6CO2 + 6H2O = 6O2 + C6H12O6
Cellular Respiration
• is the process by which the a cell combines oxygen with
glucose (carbohydrates/food) and releases water,
carbon dioxide and energy (ATP).
Chemical Formula for
Cellular Respiration
6O2 + C6H12O6 --> 6H2O + 6CO2 + energy
Sunlight energy + 6CO2 + 6H2O = 6O2 + C6H12O6
6O2 + C6H12O6 = 6H2O + 6CO2 + energy (ATP)
Sunlight energy + 6CO2 + 6H2O = 6O2 + C6H12O6
6O2 + C6H12O6 = 6H2O + 6CO2 + energy (ATP)
Sunlight energy + 6CO2 + 6H2O = 6O2 + C6H12O6
6O2 + C6H12O6 = 6H2O + 6CO2 + energy (ATP)
Sunlight energy + 6CO2 + 6H2O = 6O2 + C6H12O6
6O2 + C6H12O6 = 6H2O + 6CO2 + energy (ATP)
Sunlight energy + 6CO2 + 6H2O = 6O2 + C6H12O6
6O2 + C6H12O6 = 6H2O + 6CO2 + energy (ATP)
Sunlight energy + 6CO2 + 6H2O = 6O2 + C6H12O6
6O2 + C6H12O6 = 6H2O + 6CO2 + energy (ATP)
