Outer
Ear - part of the ear that
collects sound waves
Sound
waves - vibrations or
movements of air
Middle
ear - part of ear in which
sound waves push against
eardrum causing it to vibrate.
Inner
ear - part of the ear that
sends messages to the brain &
helps a person keep his or her
balance.
DECIBELS (dB)
A unit used to measure the
loudness of sounds.
40 to 60 decibels are comfortable.
Above 70 decibels are annoying
and can cause hearing loss.
Serious
hearing loss can occur
from sounds of 120 decibels.
140
decibels might cause pain
as well as hearing loss.

Noise Pollution - loud or constant
noise that causes hearing loss,

WAYS TO CARE FOR YOUR EARS
Do not insert any objects into the ear
canal.
Wear earplugs when swimming to
prevent ear infections.
Wear a hat, scarf, or earmuffs to
prevent cold from irritating the middle
ear.
Keep volume of CD players, TV’s
IPODS at a safe level
WAYS TO CARE FOR YOUR EARS
Avoid listening to music at unsafe
levels through headphones.
Clean the outer ear with a soft, clean
washcloth to avoid wax buildup in the
ear canal.
Wear protective earplugs when
operating loud machinery, or using
power tools.
