Blind and Deaf Facts
• Around the world about 1.4 million children under the
age of 15 are blind.
• Vision impairments may develop before a baby is even
born.
• Approximately 3 million children in the U.S. have a
hearing loss in at least one ear.
• Permanent hearing loss occurs in 3 out of every 1,000
newborns.
The Lions Foundation of Illinois
• Provide quality programs and services for the
conservation of sight and hearing for the citizens of
Illinois. (Such as Camp Lions)
• Provide assistance for the unmet medical needs
associated with sight and hearing.
• Provide assistance for activities and services for those
suffering disabilities.
Camp Lions
• Campers will spend an entire week at one of three
locations in Illinois (Ingleside, Hudson, Benton)
• All campsites provide modern cabin-style housing
with bunk beds for
a comfortable overnight
experience
• Camp Lions is completely free to all campers
• Camp Lions has been “Making friends and memories
since 1957”
Campers
• Campers are between the ages of 7 and 17 who have
hearing and vision impairments to a certain degree.
• Campers live all over Illinois. Last year campers came
from Lisle, Springfield, Trenton, Peoria, Aurora,
Lemont, and many other areas too.
• About 200 campers (50 each week) will attend this year
• Counselor to Camper ratio is 1:4 for safety and to
provide positive role modeling
