Ukraine is an active member of the IOC Oceanographic
Data and Information Exchange Programme (IODE).
Ukrainian National Oceanographic Data Centre was
established in 1993 on a basis of the Department of Marine
Information Systems and Technologies (MIST) at the
Marine Hydrophysical Institute) of the National Academy
of Sciences of Ukraine (MHI NASU).
In 2006 the MIST was transformed to the Department of
Marine Environmental and Information Technologies
(MEIT) that continued to carry out the duties of the
Ukrainian National Oceanographic Data Centre

In 2008 Ukraine decided to shift to the distributed model of
the NODC.
From October 2008 in Ukraine in addition to the NODC based
at the MHI Department of Marine Environmental and
Information Technologies there is one more NODC based at
the Laboratory of the Marine Information Systems (LaMIS)
of the Institute of Biology of Southern Seas (IBSS NASU).
NODC on a basis of the MHI is dealing with the physical,
chemical, and satellite data http://www.ocean.nodc.org.ua.
NODC on a basis of the IBSS is dealing with the marine
biological data http://nodc.ibss.org.ua/.
Both institutions are members of the Oceanological Centre
of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

Main tasks for 2010-2013
• Organization of the close connections and information &
data exchange with all Ukrainian marine biological
organizations
• Completing of the full historical inventories on data got by
all Ukrainian marine biological organizations
• Historical data digitization & QC and providing them to
international projects and databases
• Development of the QC procedures for the marine
biological data
• Application / development of the standard data / metadata
formats for the marine biological data
