This Action Plan is addressed to
five Member States in particular Ireland, the United Kingdom, France,
Spain and Portugal; these are the
Atlantic Member States

Context – BLUE GROWTH
The Atlantic Action Plan sets out priorities for research and investment to
drive the blue economy forwards in the Atlantic area

Context – SEA BASIN STRATEGIES
The EU’s Integrated Maritime Policy promotes growth and
development strategies to exploit strenghts and address
weaknesses of each sea region in the EU
Countries and regions around a shared sea space work together
on common agreed objectives and targeted specific measures

Atlantic Action Plan Priorities
Priority 1:
Entrepreneurship
and innovation
• Cooperation research and technology and improving the
knowledge transfers
• Improving skills and educations in traditional and emerging
sectors of the blue economy, cross- border programmes.
• Improving the growth, productivity, competitiveness and
environmental sustainability of aquaculture and fisheries
Priority 2:
Protect, secure
and enhance the
marine and
coastal
environment
• Reinforcing maritime safety and security
• Developing new instruments and platforms for ocean
observation and monitoring of ecosystems
• Encourauging cooperation between Member States on
joint actions to restore ecosystems and achieve the GES
in the Atlantic, MSP and ICZM, better understanding
climate change.
• Developing a better understanding for mining for
minerals and test innovative mining technologies
• Developing biobanks and identifying markets for
innovative marine bioproducts.
• Promoting research, development and demonstration of
technologies for the development of marine renewables
