Our church is poised to “step out in faith” in support of the many wonderful
ministries and programs offered by our church through the renovation and
addition of our church facilities. You, the congregation have voiced your
needs and dreams for our church in many ways and the Building Committee
has translated those needs from “Ministry to Facility”. It has been a steady
and upward climb which brings us to this important milestone. Continue to
pray for this project and as we listen to God’s voice may we be empowered
to build up his church here in our community.

Building Committee Charter:
After being duly elected by the Church Council,
the Building Committee will present plans for a
possible building expansion at a future Special
Church Conference
Building Finance Committee Charter:
Engage in a feasibility study resulting in ways to
finance a building expansion and present
preliminary financial plan at a future Special
Church Conference
The estimated cost of the renovations and
additions is $3,000,000. A Capital
Campaign will reduce this cost but by how
much is up to the congregation. The
remainder will need to be financed over 15
years. This could raise the total cost of the
project by an additional $1,000,000.
Additionally, we must realize that the
operating costs of a larger facility will
incrementally raise the on-going operating
expense of the church.
A walk around the proposed new addition…
continuing around the structure…notice the reuse of the Church Street stained glass…

Research Comments from Building Committee’s
investigation of Pre-engineered Steel Construction
over Traditional Wood, Brick, & Stone
•
Pre-fab steel construction helps to expedite the construction process by relying
on pre-engineered structural members and wall panels. These structural
elements are pre-designed based upon the manufacture’s standards for
buildings of various sizes. They can be incorporated with the pre-fabricated wall
panels resulting in less labor during the construction time thereby lowering
costs. “Churches looking to expand their ministries are moving towards this type
of construction because of the time and cost savings it offers as well as many
other benefits with regards to efficiency and operational costs.” (Source:
www.ChristianityToday.com)
•
•
We are planning to utilize a hybrid of the pre-fab structure. The intent is to utilize
the structural framework of these pre-engineered buildings and combine that
with the more typical brick and mortar construction for the first floor wall
fabrication.
The second floor walls option would be a pre-fabricated metal panel or a stucco
type of panel both of which could be supplied by the same manufacture of these
structures. These buildings have grown in popularity over the years because of
the ease of construction, cost savings and the flexibility in the options that are
available for the exterior of the building and its appearance.
Research Comments from Building Committee’s
investigation of Pre-engineered Steel Construction
over Traditional Wood, Brick, & Stone (con’t)
•
Poor labor quality during construction can and will effect the performance of
any type of construction. Improperly installed flashing on the most expensive
roof will not keep it from leaking. Craftsmanship at all levels of the construction
process must be maintained.
•
As with any building, proper maintenance will help to keep the building and its
operation, functioning at it’s highest level. Routine servicing of all the
equipment, and proper maintenance of the inside and outside will prevent
costly repairs in the future.
•
We believe the plans contain the specifications for quality materials that will
help us to maintain the overall cost of the project. Utilizing more expensive
products in specific areas (i.e.; insulation with higher insulating values) will be
more cost effective in helping to reduce future operating costs of the building as
we move into the future.

Affirmation of Building Resolution
WHEREAS the Building Committee of the Denville Community Church has been asked by the church
to address the expanding facility needs of its Christian Education program and various other
ministries in order to effectively meet the growing spiritual needs of the congregation; and
WHEREAS the Building Committee has subsequently spent the past 16 months meeting with and
retaining professionals in order to create architectural plans that satisfy the identified needs
(supporting current and future growth); and
WHEREAS the Finance Committee has developed a preliminary financial plan that includes a Capital
Funds Campaign to enable the church to fund this “stepping out in faith” endeavor;
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED:
THAT the Building and Finance Committees be commended for their careful and detailed work to date;
THAT the Building Committee be affirmed for the direction that its’ planning has taken thus far;
THAT the Building Committee be granted permission to:
A. Spend up to an additional $40,000 in order to complete the final architectural plans;
B. Solicit and obtain formal bid proposals (for the renovation and expansion of facilities); and
C. Execute a Capital Funds Campaign that clearly seeks the financial support of the church’s
members and friends over and above (i.e., in addition to) supporting the current needs of the
operating budget); and
THAT a Special Church Conference be held on a date to be announced in order for the Building and
Finance Committees to present final recommendations for the building expansion and seek
congregational approval.
