Mental Health First Aid USA is coordinated by the
National Council for Behavioral Health, the Maryland
Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, and
the Missouri Department of Mental Health.
What Is Mental Health First Aid?
Mental Health First Aid is the initial help offered to a
person developing a mental health or substance use
problem, or experiencing a mental health crisis. The first aid
is given until appropriate treatment and support are
received or until the crisis resolves.
1
Why Mental Health First Aid?
2
Why now?
22.2% of children ages 9-17 have a diagnosable
mental or addictive disorder
Only 20% of children with mental disorders are
identified and receive services.
In Pennsylvania, suicide is the 1st leading cause of
death for ages 10-14. In Lehigh County our coroner
has investigated 48 suicides as of June and we
could reach 90-100 by the end of the year.
Help is available and treatment works!
