or no actual damage


◦ A disorder in which a person is overly anxious and
self conscious

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
◦ A disorder in which after effects of a terrifying
event keep a person from living in a normal life

Cognitive Disorder
◦ A disorder in which a person’s brain deteriorates in
function

Dementia
◦ Disease in which brain deterioration affects
memory, language, and reasoning

Conduct Disorder
◦ A disorder in which a person regularly violates the
rights of others and breaks social rules

Eating Disorder
◦ A mental disorder in which a person has a
compelling need to starve, binge, or to binge and
purge

Anorexia Nervosa
◦ Eating disorder in which a person starves their body
and weighs 15% or more below the healthy weight
for their age and gender

Bulimia
◦ Eating disorder in which a person binges and then
purges



Clinical Depression
◦ Long lasting feelings of hopelessness, sadness, or
helplessness

Bipolar Disorder
◦ Moods vary from extreme happiness to extreme
depression

Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD)

reduced exposure to sunlight


◦ Person’s patterns of thinking, feeling, and acting
interfere with daily living

Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD)
◦ A person has sudden changes in mood,
relationships, and behaviors

Schizophrenia
◦ Disorder where there is a breakdown in logical
thought process

Somatoform Disorder
◦ Person has symptoms, but no physical cause

Hidden Anger
◦ Not recognized and is expressed in inappropriate
ways


◦ Chronic state of anger


◦ Chemical that is involved in controlling states of
consciousness and mood


◦ Blaming others for actions or events for which they
are not responsible


◦ Releasing of anger on someone or something other
than cause of the anger

General Adaptation Syndrome (GAS)
◦ Series of body changes that result from stress
◦ 3 Stages
 1. Alarm
 First stage – body gets ready for quick action
 Adrenaline
 Hormone that prepares the body to react in times of stress
and emergency
 2. Resistance
 Second stage – body attempts to regain internal balance
 3. Exhaustion
 Third stage – wear and tear on the body

