Advanced Theatre – What to Expect…

Journals – Randomly assigned as a beginning reflection - journal entry and stage vocabulary. After
every 10-15 terms, there will be a test on the vocabulary.

Wednesday, Aug. 24th 6–7pm Parent Info Night – Volunteer and Committee sign-ups

Friday, Sept. 30th Disney Performing Arts Workshops – Disneyland Trip!!!

Wednesday, Nov. 16th 3:30-6:30 Full Dress and Tech Rehearsal both casts Fall show Velveteen
Rabbit

Friday, Nov. 18th full dress and tech rehearsals during 1st and 5th periods

Wednesday, Nov. 30th 6:30-8:30 Cast 1 performance of Velveteen Rabbit

Thursday, Dec. 1st 6:30-8:30 Cast 2 performance of Velveteen Rabbit

Friday, Dec. 2nd 9:30 am Cast 1 day performance and 1:45 pm Cast 2 day performance

Velveteen Rabbit Auditions – Tentatively Wednesday, August 31st and Sept. 2nd, during class;
Students have been given a copy of the script.
◦ Students are to prepare a monologue. or series of dialogue, directly from the script for their
audition;They are encouraged to turn in an interest list of their top three preferred roles,
and/or tech/stage crew interest and past experience
◦ Students wishing to be considered for a singing part should also prepare a one minute song
audition – to be performed the following week in class.
◦ Cold readings may also be used as part of the audition process.
What else is going on?

Date TBD - Middle School Monologue Competition (tentatively hosted at
Thompson Middle School)

Wednesday, March 15th DMMS mini Shakespeare Competition during 1st and 5th
periods

Wednesday, April 19th DMMS Annual Shakespeare Night – “An Evening with the
Bard” 6-8:30 pm MPR We will be selling advanced tickets again this year and seeking
reservations for themed table sponsorships!!! Stay tuned for more info as the year
progresses! This was a successful and enjoyable fundraiser last year (bringing in
roughly $700 to go toward the purchase of a new follow spot light and new
wireless microphones)

Saturday, April 22nd Jr. High/Varsity Shakespeare Festival (8th grade and high school
participation only) (Hosted in Temecula this year. Potential for participation due to
proximity of venue.)

Saturday, April 29th Middle School Shakespeare Festival – location TBD – We will
participate – will require bus or parent transportation)

Thursday, June 1st 6:00-8:30 pm Adv. Theatre Arts “Student Showcase” - theme TBD

Friday, June 2nd during 1st and 5th periods – daytime showcase
