Canopy Supported by pillars and hut on top.
Shaded actors from sun and rain
Represented the skys and heaven
Hut used storage and sound effects such as alarm
bells, cannon fire, thunder
2. GALLERIES
3 seating sections
Paid more to sit in this section
Wooden benches
Under a hatch roof
Protected from sun
3. OPEN YARD
Paid one penny to stand
No protection from weather
Groundlings could participate in the action of the play
Would throw food at the actors
Yelling at actors
4. TRAPDOOR
 Actors playing ghost or witches
 Could use to descend through this into main stage
 The cellar underneath was referred to as hell
5. INNER STAGE
Used mostly for outdoor sciences
Had curtain that could be opened
or closed for scene change
6. MAIN STAGE
Where the main action of the
play took place
Especially the outdoor scenes
7. TIRING HOUSE
Dressing and Storage Rooms
Actors rested here between scenes and changed into
lavish costumes which made up for lack of props
Doors also served as actors’ main exits and entrances
8. UPPER STAGE
“ The Chamber”
Used for most bedroom and Balcony
Scenes
The balcony above was used for musicians
and sound effects
