At the end of the Middle Ages can be seen moving away from the liturgical,

the early Renaissance and it was appreciated especially among the elite. The
Renaissance is, above all, the development of the old Polish theater and
exhibition were mostly Mikolaj Rej and Jan Kochanowski. Polish real catalyst for
the emergence of the theater turned out to be the country itinerant English
(including arts Shakespeare) and Italian (commedia dellarte) theaters. Thanks to
them, the courts, the first stage being built on the model of the Italian (the first
was in 1637, built on the orders of King Władysław IV Vasa). After the loss of
independence performances were subjected to censorship, and most
functioned only in the form of dramas (including Forefathers, Mickiewicz)
After the war, the most outstanding Polish playwright Stanislaw Wyspianski
began staging of these works, and the lack of censorship, allowed the operation
of up to 32 major theaters across the country. After World War II, communism
tried to limit the staging of the classics (most tragic example is the March of
1968, when Kazimierz Dejmek staged Forefathers). After the collapse of the
Soviet Union Poland went through several prominent playwrights and theater
directors, the award-winning Lupa, Warlikowski, Klata and brambles at the helm.
