Roots
• A root is a part of a word that has a meaning
of its own
• Many roots come from ancient Latin and
Greek words
• You can figure out words you don’t know by
looking inside them for the roots you do know

• Create a Root Word Monster using ALL of the
root words in your ziploc bag and your
imagination
• On one side of each card you have a root word
and on the opposite side you have its meaning
• If necessary, you may add additional words to your monster
to better describe it
