Healthy Habits
With allergy season here and the dreaded flu

with your child the importance of proper hand
washing and coughing/sneezing techniques.
We are disinfecting the desks, doorknobs and

Curriculum Notes
Into good study habits!
Math: This week, we will compare numbers using greater than and less than. We
will also cover ordinal numbers. Our Chapter One math test is scheduled for Friday
of this week. Please practice reading, identifying, and correctly writing (digit and
word form) numbers at home. Continue to review counting patterns, missing
numbers within a counting pattern, ordinal numbers, and comparing numbers using
greater than and less than. These are the topics that will be covered on our first test.
Thinking ahead… Next week, we will be diving into addition! We will focus on
addition strategies and facts to 12.
Reading: Our word focus will be on short i. We will read our second whole group
story: Pig in a Wig. Our spelling words will be generated from our weekly story.
Spelling and sight words were sent home on Friday. Please review these nightly.
We will also focus on fall poems and stories to improve reading fluency.
Grammar and Writing: For the next few weeks, we will be focusing on sentences.
We will discuss types of sentences, the parts of a sentence, word order, and correct
punctuation.
Religion: This week, we will complete Chapter One in our textbook and begin
Chapter Two. A Chapter One and Two assessment is planned for next week.
Handwriting: A significant amount of instructional time will be spent on reviewing
correct letter and number formation.
Social Studies and Science: All About Fall!
Last week, we completed poems and projects about apples to celebrate the
beginning of school and the upcoming fall season. As a whole class, we will begin
to learn about Johnny Apple Seed this week. We will also read and discuss the third
