Become a Word Warrior!

Here comes Set #2 of your Word Warriors vocabulary words!
Remember, if you work hard you can win awards and prizes at
the end of camp!




If you know 14-16 words then you’ll be a Jargon General and
you’ll win your very own Scrabble Slam Card Game!
If you know 17-19 words then you’ll be a Term Trooper and
you’ll win your very own Scrabble Slam Card Game!
If you know 20-24 words then you’ll be a Word Warrior and
you’ll win your very own Scrabble Slam Card Game AND a
Boggle Reinvention Game!
So work hard this week and show off what you know on this
Friday’s Final Activity!


Here’s your first opportunity to start working towards becoming a
Word Warrior and winning awards and prizes at the end of camp!
Each week we’ll introduce a few warrior words and you’ll practice
using them all week. After working with the words and the lessons
are complete, you’ll do a final activity to show that you know the
words from the week.



If you know 14-16 words then you’ll be a Jargon General and you’ll get a
certificate and win your very own Pictureka Card Game!
If you know 17-19 words then you’ll be a Term Trooper and you’ll get a
certificate and win your very own Pictureka Card Game!
If you know 20-24 words then you’ll be a Word Warrior and you’ll get a
certificate and win your very own Pictureka Card Game AND a Blurt
Game!



What’s It Mean?: If you RETAIN
something you REMEMBER it.
Here’s an Example: I have to practice
in order to RETAIN all of my
multiplication facts.
Shout Out: What information did you retain
from the past school year?



What’s It Mean?: To COMPLY means
to follow rules, requests, or
directions.
Here’s an Example: Safe drivers
COMPLY with the rules of the road.
Can you think of a time when you
COMPLY with rules?

What’s It Mean? To DETERIORATE means to
become worse or of less value over time.
Here’s an Example:
The house began
to DETERIORATE
because no-one
took care of it.
Name something that you have seen
DETERIORATE.



What’s It Mean?: A HOAX is a trick or something
false passed off as true.


Here’s an Example: The rumor that
our final exam in social studies
was going to be 1,000 questions
turned out to be a HOAX.
Shout Out: Has anyone ever played a HOAX
on you?
What’s It Mean?: If something is
MONOTONOUS it is the same again and
again.


Here’s an Example: Sally’s job making the
same exact donuts every single morning
became very MONOTONOUS.



What’s It Mean? If you are doing
something because it is right you feel
OBLIGATED.
Here’s an Example: I felt OBLIGATED
to help my elderly next door neighbor
carry her groceries.

What’s It Mean?: Something that is
IMMENSE is so great in size or amount
that it can’t be measured.
Here’s an Example: The mountain was so
IMMENSE that I couldn’t see the top.



What’s It Mean?: If something is
TREACHEROUS it is unpredictably
dangerous.
Here’s an example: The current of the river was
fast flowing and TREACHEROUS .
Have you ever encountered
a TREACHEROUS situation?




Now that you’ve seen the words for this week,
make sure you work hard every day to learn
what they mean!
During the word warrior time of your day, you
will have opportunities to learn and practice
the warrior words so you can be a master word
warrior.
At the end of the week you will have a final
activity to show what you know!
