Who can recall what a noun is?
NOUNS
Nouns are naming words. They help people
name what they are thinking or talking about. In
English, most nouns fall into four main groups.
A noun is a person, place thing or idea.

COLLECTIVE NOUNS
A few nouns name groups of people or things. A pack, for
example is “a group of dogs that travel together.” These nouns are
called collective nouns.

COMPOUND NOUNS
Sometime words are used together to form a new word with a
different meaning.
For example: the two separate words dog and house, when they
are used together create “doghouse” meaning “a house for a dog.
“Together the words take on a special meaning. A noun such as
doghouse is said to be a compound noun
A compound noun is a noun made up of two or more words

A common noun names any one of a class of people, places,
or things. Common nouns are never capitalized unless they begin
a sentence or a title
A proper noun names a specific person, place, or thing. A
proper noun is always capitalized
All nouns-even if they are collective or compound-can be
classified as either common or proper nouns
