Chapter 10 Micro-dermabrasion
Crystal micro-dermabrasion
Crystal micro-dermabrasion 1
• Mechanical removal of the surface layer of dead skin cells
to encourage regeneration and growth of new cells.
• Application of fine abrasive crystals via vacuum suction;
this blows the crystals onto the skin’s surface to suck up
dead cells.
• After treatment the skin is better able to absorb beneficial
products.
• Crystals can be manmade or naturally sourced.
• Any moisture in the air will cause fine particles to clump
together, causing them to attack the skin more
aggressively.
• Crystals for each treatment are poured into a canister.
Crystal micro-dermabrasion 2
Functions of the vacuum nozzle:
• Pulls and raises a section of skin to work on.
• Causes slight oedema and brings impurities to the
surface.
• Shoots a stream of crystals at a patch of skin.
• Collects used crystals and dead skin for disposal.
• Treatment should be preceded with a pre-peel lotion
to disinfect skin and loosen bonds between cells.
• Any remaining crystals or dust should be wiped
away with post-peel lotion.
