All of the planets are: Mercury, Venus, Earth,
Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and
Neptune.
The inner planets are: Mercury, Venus, Earth,
and Mars
The outer planets are: Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus,
and Neptune
The largest planet is: Jupiter
Two dwarf planets are: Pluto and Eris
Mercury
Mercury’s atmosphere is very thin
Mercury is only about one-third size of the
Earth
Venus
The brightest planet
Dense atmosphere
Earth
Earth rotates on an imaginary axis which is
tilted
The tilt is what determines the change in
seasons
Mars
Mars is home of “Olympus Mons” the largest
volcano in the solar system
Mars has 2 small natural satellites
Jupiter
Largest planet in the solar system
The Great Red Spot is a hurricane-like storm
Saturn
Second biggest planet
Lowest density of any planet in the solar
system
Uranus
Has a very strong magnetic field
Has a system of rings which were not
discovered until 1977
Neptune
Was discovered in 1846
Has large dark ovals on its surface that are
hurricane-like storms.
70% of Earth’s surface is water
30% of Earth’s surface is land
Another name for Earth is Terra
Earth has five oceans:
1.
Pacific Ocean
2.
Atlantic Ocean
3.
Indian Ocean
4.
Artic Ocean
5.
Southern Ocean
The largest ocean is the Pacific Ocean
The smallest ocean is the Artic Ocean
The North Pole contains the largest ice cap
Mars is called The Red Planet because the
dirt is red and gives a red appearance
There are not any oceans or seas on Mars
Mar’s polar ice caps are made of water ice
The name of the Grand Canyon on Mars is
Valles Marineris
They both have valleys, volcanoes, and
deserts
They both have north and south poles
They both have moons
Mars once had water unlike Earth, who still
has water
Mars is much colder than Earth
Earth is larger
than Mars as seen
in the picture
beside.
Car-sized robotic rover that explores Mars
Found NO life on Mars
Found water in Mars sample
First rover to drill into Martian rock

Mar’s polar ice caps has water ice
Mar’s has north and south poles
Curiosity is the first rover to drill into
Martian rock
