Oracle Discoverer 3.1 - Product Presentation
This is an ad hoc query and analysis tool for high
performance user access to information
Present data in a text or graphics form …
Represent sense of data - information
Hide complexity of database from ordinary user - user
doesn’t have to know SQL to ask efficient and effective
queries

Some terminology ...
OLAP
- On Line Analytical Processing is a tool for
analysis and presenting data
MDDB
- MultiDimensional Data Base - data base
with data placed within dimensions e.g.
Oracle Express
Dimension - e.g. Time, People
Hierarchy of dimension - e.g.
– Time : Year-Quarter-Month-Week-Day-Hour-Minute-Second
– CERN : Division-Group-Section-Persons

Overview of Oracle Discoverer
“Oracle Discoverer” has evolved into a powerful tool for
analyzing data with the advantage of integration with
other Oracle solutions.
This tool can be used as a part of the Oracle Express
system or to simulate a MultiDimensional Data Base
from a flat Oracle database.
It can be called “OLAP on client side”. No need for
specialized MDDB server with separate administration,
just MDDB view over production system.
“Oracle Discoverer” is the ‘next generation’ query tool
that has replaced “Oracle Data Query”.

Overview of Oracle Discoverer […]
Aggregation of data, according to hierarchy (e.g.
average expenses within section, group or division)
Multiple and multilevel data hierarchies within the
dimensions (e.g. Person-Section-Group , PersonBuilding )
Possibility to drill-down to detailed data and to drill-up to
aggregation level
