SEASONS
SEASONS VOCABULARY

Rotation – The time it takes an object to spin around
once, the earth rotates once a day.
Revolution – The time it takes one object to go
around another. The earth revolves around the sun
once a year or every 365.24 days.
SEASONS VOCABULARY

Zenith – The highest point or
closest to directly overhead.

Altitude – The angle or height an
object is above the horizon.

Horizon – Imaginary line where
the sky stops and the land begins.
ECLIPTIC – THE PLANE WHICH THE PLANETS ORBIT THE SUN. THE
MOON ALSO TRAVELS IN THE ECLIPTIC PLANE AROUND EARTH.
SEASONS VOCABULARY

Tropic of Cancer – 23.5˚ north of the equator the point
where the sun appears directly overhead on June 21st.

Tropic of Capricorn – 23.5˚ south of the equator the point
where the sun appears directly overhead on December 21st.
SEASONS VOCABULARY

Perihelion – The closest point in a planets orbit to the sun.

Aphelion – The farthest point in a planets orbit to the sun.
SEASONS VOCABULARY

Equinox – Length of the day and night are equal in the northern and southern
hemispheres. September 21st is the Autumn Equinox, March 21st is the Spring
Equinox, on both days the sun is directly overhead the equator at noon.

Solstice – The shortest or longest days of the year December 21st or Jun 21st.
