RoadMap for Golden Gate
José Parra
Roadmap for Golden Gate
 I. What is Golden Gate?
 Oracle GoldenGate is a software package for real-time data integration and replication in
heterogeneous IT environments.
 The major benefit of GoldenGate over Oracle heterogeneous services is the ability to extract
data from various source environments such as SQL Server, Sybase, Teradata, and DB2 and
pump the data into an Oracle data warehouse environment

 II. ALMA replication needed?
 Yes, ALMA uses “Oracle Streams” to replicate metadata from OSF to SCO and to the ARCs.
This is key to keep all sites in-sync.
 III. Why do we need to replace “Oracle Streams” with GG?
 Oracle Streams is deprecated in Oracle Database 12c and may be desupported and
unavailable in a later Oracle Database release. Besides this critical support issue, any new
database features, data types, or capabilities will not be supported by Streams starting 2016
(End of support 11gR2)
 IV. Coordination required
 ARCs and JAO need to buy Oracle GoldenGate licenses in 2015 (*)
 Maintenance window will be required @JAO and ARCs to replace Oracle Streams during
2015
(*) Cost for ALMA (Price hold - 75% discount)
